Deduction 1 - [ written ]

[Sherlock Holmes has been on bedrest for about 48 hours.

However, when his doctor decides to go out for supplies and to see if any of the detective's clothes have shown up (it was either that or let the man get up and see himself, and apparently that was not going to be allowed)... the patient lets himself get up. Not much, just enough to make it into the sitting room.

Which is just as white-washed as the bedroom. Damn it.

Once he can stand to be on his feet for more than ten minutes at a time, those walls are getting painted or papered or something.

He's had time enough to read his Journal and the Guide it contains, and the system itself is straightforward enough. Something like a computer but not quite as efficient. Still, it's something.

It doesn't matter to him that his Journal is in his bedroom and John's is sitting out. It's John's he grabs and a pen nearby that he writes with, unaware of what was broadcast over the journals the previous day.]

I am aware that damage to the wings is ill-advised. However, I am curious: Seeing the distinct disadvantage that they pose, has anyone attempted to surgically remove them? Not ripping or merely cutting-- a proper medical procedure. An amputation. Has it been attempted? If it has, to what end?
SH

[After he's written out all of that, he starts on another project. To some, it may just be evidence of extreme boredom. Others... Well. Others might recognise it.]

[Good lord, morse code, really? Well he has time to kill. After a short trip to the library and finding a book on international morse code he feels comfortable enough to reply to this... Rude.]

From what I can see you already have a response to both your question and your code. Do you intend to go through with some sort of procedure despite being so strongly advised against it?

[No doctor better go through with this...]

Even despite the fact death would be imminent? It's a very foolish thing to do, no doctor would agree to it, it would be like assisted suicide.

Whilst I understand there is a difference between the wings being removed due to an injury and the wings being removed professionally in a controlled environment the point is the guide states 'losing both of your wings will result in your immediate death'. I doubt this is an assumption and there must be some solid fact behind it to warrant it to be written in a guide for newcomers of all places.

Whilst I have heard nothing of any medical procedures regarding the wings, it is my understanding that Miss Raine Sage has been a long time resident here and so her word must be of some worth in all this. It's one thing being told by a New Feather and another being told by a veteran.

[It tends to be useful to pay attention and heed the advice and words of higher ups don'tcha know.]

[What is with all the dot-to-dot pictures being sent back and forth today? And why isn't anyone bothering to actually do them?

Ah whatever, more for her to do herself.]

[...Dot-to-dots are hard.]

[Why is he writing all over her words like that... Oh. Oooh. She gets it.]

ThAnK Thank you!

[The letters are still scruffy and all over the place but it seems she's grasped how to use capitals. The next part is spoken because writing is hard.]

You fixed Yotsuba's writing! Daddy taught me how to right my name, Yotsuba, but it's still really hard. Writing is hard, talking is easy!

[Sherlock, try giving them other ways to be clever other than writing in Morse code. Puzzles are much better. :P But have some painfully neat handwriting in comparison to the handwriting from the previous comment.]

And just so you're aware, amputating the wings is the same as having it removed so the effects to the patient would be just as bad as having it ripped off.
